What do we aim to do?

Our aim is to help people who need inspiration, information and practical support when they are pregnant or helping pregnant women (and babies!) to have healthy, happy, harmonious births.

What have we published?

  • Surprising, Inspiring Birth  - a book of birth stories intended for pregnant women and/or their partners or their families.

  • Preparing for a Healthy Birth  - a guide for healthy pregnant women in Britain, who want to have a normal birth, with a minimum of drugs and interventions - note this edition includes full notes and references to academic research. Available in UK and US editions, with or without academic references.

  • Optimal Birth: What, Why & How  - a book for midwives and other caregivers, who want to support and facilitate the normal, healthy processes of birth. Note this is the second edition, which features full notes and academic references. An American edition of the same book (adapted for the needs of the American market) is also available. Both UK and US editions of the book include academic references, case studies and reflective practice. (The book - which was originally just 132 pages - is now 684 pages! It's still written in an easy, upbeat style.

  • Stepping Into The Dark  - an account of one man's journey into sight loss... a book which offers both information and encouragement to people in a similar situation.

It will take time to build up a list. Watch this space!

Potentially anybody. If you are interested in becoming a writer, please send a sample of your writing, providing an SAE with full postage if you would like your material to be returned. (No emailed contributions.) So that we can give your idea the consideration it deserves you should also send:

  • A suggested title and synopsis (no more than two pages of A4)
  • Contents pages
  • An introduction
  • Two sample chapters
  • Your own CV, including information of any relevant qualifications and previous publications
