These are just three of the many women who contributed to
Preparing for a Healthy Birth. The woman in the middle is
Sarah J Buckley – she’s a GP in Australia. Not only has she
researched birth, she’s also experienced it first-hand! The woman on
the left is Maria Shanahan, who had an optimal birth for her second
child, despite being terrified it might not be possible! The woman
on the right has asked to remain anonymous… but you’ll learn lots
about her if you read the book. Other contributors came from all
walks of life… There’s a birth story contributed by a piano teacher,
one by an engineer (oh, and another one too), another one came from
a financial analyst, another from a midwife, another from a
professional photographer, yet another from a psychoanalyst, another
from a shopkeeper… The list is long and varied. A few men also
contributed their views, as did a couple of children… and there are
plenty of contributions from professionals from around the world.
Interestingly enough, while the contributors to this book varied
enormously their conclusions about birth are extremely similar.
Preparing for a Healthy Birth is full of accounts – 100 birth stories and 180
comments – about a new way of giving birth and the disadvantages of
using what has been wrongly called ‘pain relief’. You’ll experience
less pain and whole lot more joy if you give birth without drugs!
